| Wednesday March 29
Indiana Film Society & the
Jewish Community Center Film Screenings at the JCC Laikin Auditorium, 6701 Hoover Rd. $3 admission, $1 for JCC or Film Society members. Show times are at 7:30 pm. April 4 My Name is Joe This 1998 film starring Peter Mullan, is about a recovering alcoholic who has an unlikely romance with his visiting nurse. Mulan won the best actor award at the Cannes Film Festival. May 9 The Eel The Japanese co-winner of the 1997 Palme d'Ore at Cannes, based on the novel Glimmering in the Dark, tells the story of a man who cares for an eel during imprisonment, and then tries to start a new life in a small town. The above info is from Bonnie Britton's column in the Indianapolis Star. Thursday March 9 Lulu Takes A Lover Up in the South Bend area, (I'm still not used to saying that), Peter O'Keefe plans on shooting a 20 minute short the next few weekends or so. This project is targeted for film festivals, cable/satellite channels, and/or web viewing. Casting info is offered at the Indiana Film Commission at (800) 879-7998. Wednesday March 8 The Eyes Have It: Stanley Kubrick, Film and the Uses of History With Kubrick's death one year past us now, a symposium will be held at Albion College in Michigan. I know that has little to do with Indiana Film but I found out about this in the Sunday edition of the Star. In Bonnie Britton's column, she mentions this event and gives a web addy of www.albion.edu/cishc/kubrick for more info. However as of this writing, that link is dead, 404, flatline on the floor. My guess is all the readers of her column overwhelmed the server up there in Michigan! Anyway, here is the closest link I could find working; http://calender.albion.edu and this is the current month's calender of events at Albion. Hopefully the throngs from this site don't crash their server again! ;-) Thursday Feb. 24 Madison Photo I got this image from Michael Heitz who was the still photographer on the set of Madison last fall. Madison is a feature about a small Ohio River town that rallies around a local underdog hydroplane racing team taking on big corporate money race teams. It's a feel good movie that I would describe as a Breaking Away on water. 8-) Speaking of which, the DP Jim Glennon, shot that film too as well as Return of the Jedi. An interesting story about the picture below; Jim Timperman operating the Panavision was allowed to peer through Jim Glennon's camera years ago when he was a boy on the set of Breaking Away. Jim Glennon is in the background wearing glasses and yours truly is getting focus marks for Timperman operating B camera last days of the principle shooting. Click the picture for an uncropped larger version. Photograph courtesy of Michael Heitz ©1999 Tuesday Feb. 22 The Distance Shooting began first week of February on this feature film. I did not get much information on this one. If anyone has more info or stills from the set send em in and I'll post it here. |
